Major sporting events choose Greater Sebring as their host destination in 2024
Sebring, FL (January 31, 2024) – While the 12 Hours of Sebring at the historic Sebring International Raceway is the most famous event in Sebring, it’s just the start when it comes to sporting adventures in this Central Florida destination. Several new showcases, competitions, and championships, both professional and amateur, have been added to Sebring’s 2024 calendar. These events will bring thousands of athletes to the Sebring region along with those who prefer watching their sports from the sidelines.
From motorized surfboarding to cycling, lacrosse, golf and running, Sebring has something for every sports junkie, whether you’re a spectator or a participant. “Both athletes and event organizers love coming to Sebring thanks to the destination’s warm hospitality, low traffic roads, freshwater lakes and reasonable pricing for accommodations and restaurants”, said Casey Hartt, Visit Sebring’s Tourism Director. “As the birthplace of the legendary 12 Hours of Sebring, our community embraces racing and sports events, helping our visitors feel right at home.”
Mark your calendar for these upcoming 2024 events:
February
- Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) Sebring Speed Tour: Experience vintage 850 hp TransAm cars, classic Corvettes, Alfas, Porsches, historic F.1 and Indy cars hitting the track at Sebring International Raceway (February 23-25)
March
- 12 Hours of Sebring: Running annually since 1952, it’s one of the most famous sports car endurance races this side of the Atlantic and sanctioned by International Motor Sports Association (IMSA). The competition sees teams of drivers face off in a 12-hour endurance race on a 17-turn circuit, going 3.74 miles in each lap. Over the years a healthy roster of celebrities has raced at Sebring, including Gene Hackman, James Brolin, Lorenzo Lamas, Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, David Carradine and Patrick Dempsey. (March 13-16)
- Bike Sebring 12/24: An Ultra-Marathon Cycling Association sanctioned 12-hour event and a non-drafting RAAM qualifying event. (March 23)
April
- Visit Sebring Preview hosted by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Come watch the future of golf as top-tier Juniors (boys and girls, ages 12-19) compete in a 36-hole, stroke-play format at Sun’N Lake Golf Club (April 12-14)
May
- Liqui Moly ProWatercross National Tour: ProWatercross, also known as jet ski racing, is an exciting sport of personal watercraft racing. This season opening eventof the main international ProWatercross organization welcomes more than 100 competitors from around the country, nearly 500 event attendees and hundreds of spectators. (May 3-5)
- USA Lacrosse & Hall of Fame/All-American Festival: The North and South Florida Chapters of USA Lacrosse, the governing body of the sport in the United States, are showcasing their talents in Sebring at the USA Lacrosse Florida Hall of Fame/All American Festival. This three-day weekend Festival includes a Hall of FameAwards Induction Dinner, followed by Boys and Girls North/South All-American games (May 25-26)
September
- Motosurf Games: Motorized surfboard racing takes over Lake Jackson’s Pier Beach in September. These Games are a combination of classic racing, Electric Challenge relay-race (full electric motorized surfboards), JetSurf TUBE Fun Race and America’s only MotoSkate race. This combination provides a great weekend full of adrenaline, fun and new experiences while welcoming top racers from across the globe for a weekend of televised competition. (September 27-29)
October
- GFNY Marathon: GFNY Marathon is hosted by the same team from GFNY Cycling (see below). The marathon and half marathon start and finish at the scenic Barn at Paso Fino. Race on tranquil, scenic roads dedicated specifically for GFNY athletes via Central Florida’s nature: scrub habitat, trees and bushes and looping around Lake Hill.(October 19)
- GFNY Cycling: Florida’s hardest and biggest road race! 95 miles of racing on a route that takes riders along a scenic loop through Central Florida’s tranquil and beautiful nature.Here’s a look at the 2023 edition. (October 20)
November
- World Racing League (WRL) Eastern Championship Finale at Sebring Raceway: Both the Eastern Championship and the 10th round of the 2024 WRL National Championship will play out this weekend. WRL’s goal is to provide a highly competitive, professional-level racing experience on an amateur racing budget – without compromise. (November 8-10)
December
- 2024 Classic 12 Hour/Sebring Historics: The Classic Sebring 12 Hour features four full days of historic and vintage sports car racing and a “fly-in” and display of equally awe-inspiring military and civilian aircraft from the last half century and older. (December 4-8)
- Jingle Bell Run: An annual 5k race to get you ready for the holidays! (December 13)
- 2024 Central Florida Spartan Trifecta Weekend at Skipper Ranch: Not for the faint of heart, the Spartan Trifecta Weekend offers extreme sport athletes the opportunity to complete a Sprint, Super, and Beast in one weekend to conquer Spartan’s ultimate challenge. Up to 15,000 athletes will travel to Sebring for this event. (December 7-8)
- Citrus Golf Trail Ladies Invitational: Formerly known as the Harder Hall Invitational, this four-day tournament for women amateurs takes place at Sun’N Lake Golf Club and awards World Amateur Golf Ranking points. Past Invitational champions includes the former world #1 Nelly Korda; Hall-of-Famer Joanne Carner; LPGA stars Christie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel, Stacy Lewis, and Charley Hull (December 27-30)
