The VALUE GOLF CAPITAL of America

Sebring, Florida–In the end, through the frigid temperatures for the first 3 days, day four of the Citrus Golf Trail Women’s Invitational turned out to be decent golf weather despite a light rain to start the final round.

And rising throughout the day along with the temperature when the sun finally poked out was Thanana Kotchasanmanee, a sophomore in high school from Chiangmai, Thailand, to become the Citrus Golf Trail Women’s Invitational Champion. It was not easy for Thanana; after the first round, she was 4 behind Vanessa Zhang and five back after the second round.

Kotchasanmanee finally passed Zhang by one stroke after the third round, only to find herself three behind Rianne Mikhaela Malixi. On Friday, during the fourth round at Sun n’ Lake’s Ron Garl- redesigned masterpiece Deer Run golf course Thanana shot an unbelievable 65, seven under par, and outpaced Malixi to win the title by two shots with a four-day total of 284.

The Citrus Golf Trail Forever 49 came down to two players, Martha Leach, and Terrill Samuel, with Samuel winning on the first playoff hole to become the first Forever 49 Champion.

The CITRUS GOLF TRAIL in Sebring is “The Value Golf Capital of America,” consisting of 6 golf courses that offer history, outstanding service, value, and an extraordinary playing experience. The Citrus Golf Trail is a perfect choice for an affordable golf trip year-round.

Golf Hammock Golf & Country Club

The golf course was developed and designed by well-known Florida Golf Course Architect Ron Garl as an 18-hole, par 72 layout with four sets of tees. The “Hammock” stretches out to 6400 yards boasting a 70.7-course rating and 131 slope. The championship course is designed around a circle encompassing the clubhouse, pro shop, and restaurant allowing for frequent beverage, rest, and snack stops. Go to GolfHammockGCC.com to book your round.

Pinecrest Golf Club

As the location for the very first televised PGA Golf Tournament with winner Dr. Cary Middlecoff, Pinecrest in Avon Park is a Donald Ross original design that opened in 1926 with five sets of tees and a 71.4/120 rating on 6700 yards of rolling terrain. This historic layout invites all levels of skill from scratch to duffers. Unlike many of the typical Florida cookie-cutter layouts, the course borders beautiful orange groves and natural wooded areas and lets you walk in the footsteps of the game’s greatest golfers. One of the best places to enjoy a toddy for the body and great lite fare is the remodeled Sandhill Grill. River Greens Golf Course

Another 6400-yard challenging track with a 69.1/123 slope rating, River Greens was designed by Jack Kidwell in Avon Park, opened for play in 1969, and was owned by the Davis family. The course weaves its way through a residential community and is a pleasure to play year-round with well-maintained fairways and greens. The layout is designed for any skill level, with target golf and strategy a must. With a drivable par four and three par 5’s in the last four holes, bombers like coming home at River Greens. Contact them at RGreens.com for rates and tee times.

Sebring Municipal Golf Club

A proud member of the Florida Historic Golf Trail, the “Muni” is a challenging 18-hole layout that opened in 1928 and is a true example of the old Florida golf courses. Just off Highway 27, the course is convenient to get to. Four sets of tees allow everyone a fair chance at scoring well on a track that winds its way through Florida flora. While only 6500 yards from the tips, the elevated small, manicured greens make “Muni” play longer. The wide fairways and Bermuda rough will keep you on your toes. Don’t miss a visit to the Caddyshack, one of the hidden and inexpensive places to get a great meal and a cold one. Please visit SebringGolfClub.com for more information.

Sun “N  Lake- Deer Run Course

The Deer Run course originated in 1976 as the first of two championship layouts at the lovely
Sun ‘N Lake Golf Club. This beautiful design by Don Dyer was enhanced a few years ago by Ron Garl Design, featuring long dramatic holes and many obstacles to challenge even the best golfers. The golf course has five sets of tees to allow all players to enjoy their round on the 6350-yard track.

Sun ‘N Lake-Turtle Run Course

The second design, Turtle Run, opened in 1999 to complement Deer Run by Charles Ankrom, who drew up the plans for many of Florida’s tracks. The course features narrow landing zones, a fair amount of moguls, and deep sand bunkers. The layout was constructed in the middle of a “Scrub Jay Preservation Area” that provides a sanctuary for the protected species and a beautiful setting for a round of golf. The Clubhouse at Sun ‘N Lake is the perfect place to host a full-field golf outing or charity event with ample parking, private banquet rooms, and one of my favorite places to dine & enjoy a cold beverage after golf. Indigo Golf, a subsidiary of Troon manages the expansive facility.
