Looking for some family fun in the great outdoors? Highlands Hammock State Park will hold a series of guided nature walks during the winter season from January through March.

Saturday Kids programs are walks led by a retired middle school science teacher for children and youth aged 5 to 13. The hikes include exploratory activities and scavenger hunts. Learn about plants, animals, habitats, niche, food chains, animal adaptations, fire ecology and more! Children will learn to observe and sharpen their skills to explore nature in their own backyards, as well as the park.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Dress for the weather and wear hiking shoes, long pants and protective clothing. No flipflops or sandals. Bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent and snacks. Pets are not permitted. Registration is not required, but visitors are requested to call the ranger station and sign up so trail guides may better prepare for the walk.

Park entry fees of $6 per vehicle (up to 8 people), $4 per vehicle for a single person, and $2 for bicyclists and pedestrians apply.

Meet your guide before 10:00am at the Music in the Park stage located between the CCC Museum and the Hammock Inn Store.
