The Highlands County Tourist Development Council (TDC), in conjunction with the Wildstein Center for the Performing Arts at South Florida State College (SFSC), will host an Art & Culture Stakeholder Meeting on Thursday, October 30, at 5:30 p.m. at the Wildstein Center, located at 600 West College Drive, Avon Park.
This meeting is intended for arts and culture stakeholders who have a deep understanding of or interest in the vital role the arts play in shaping Highlands County’s economic development, community identity, and quality of life. The evening will feature Keynote Speaker Shellie Phelps, who will present on “The Importance of the Arts in Economic Development.”
The purpose of the meeting is to foster open communication and collaboration among Highlands County’s arts and culture community, with the goal of aligning efforts to strengthen the county’s cultural landscape.
“In some communities, the arts operate in isolation, or even within multiple groups that do not collaborate,” organizers noted. “Highlands County, however, recognizes the pivotal role of the arts in community revitalization, destination branding, and tourism. By bringing stakeholders together, we can continue building a stronger, more connected arts ecosystem.”
The meeting will emphasize the importance of working collectively to amplify the impact of creative initiatives. Attendees will have an opportunity to share insights, discuss challenges, and explore new partnerships that support a unified vision for the arts in Highlands County.
“The arts a powerful way for any community to tell its unique story,” said keynote speaker Shellie Phelps. “When we collaborate, we not only enrich our local culture but also strengthen our economy and sense of community.”
Organizers encourage participation from anyone passionate about the arts, culture, and the future of Highlands County.
The arts serve as a cornerstone for small communities, fostering social cohesion and a sense of belonging through shared experiences and events. They also contribute significantly to the local economy by attracting visitors, supporting jobs, preserving cultural identity, and enhancing overall well-being.
