Overview

The Avon Park Air Force Range is a 106,000-acres active military training facility located between Polk and Highlands Counties in south-central Florida.  In coordination with the U.S. Air Force, the Outdoor Recreation Program provides recreational opportunities and programs to the public and military personnel.

Avon Park Air Force Range is known as a world-class destination for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, birding, and outdoor educational opportunities for all ages.  Access is available by permit only.  The Outdoor Recreation Program has a variety of permit options available to accommodate every type of recreational users.  All permits must be purchased in advance Mondays through Thursdays on our iSportsman portal.  Please note, permits are not available for purchase in person at our office.  For more information, please review our Regulation Summary, updated annually, for  access procedures, regulations, hunt season dates, and special events listings.

Hours of Operation

As Avon Park Air Force Range is primary used for military training missions during the week, public access is ONLY provided on weekends when authorized by the Installation Commander.  Weekly Access Schedules are posted every Wednesday morning; there is also an Avon Park AFR app for Apple and Android devices, which provides up-to-the-minute information on all things Outdoor Recreation.
