For the first time in its history, the Caladium Festival will feature steam-powered passenger train rides operating hour-long trips out of Lake Placid on July 28th and 29th. Known as the “Caladium Capital of the World,” Lake Placid celebrates the colorful blooming flower and agricultural heritage of Highlands County and routinely welcomes 20,000 visitors a year.

Trains will depart Lake Placid on Friday and Saturday at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 2:00 PM each day. Tickets are $25.00

In addition, the Lake Placid Historical Society is auctioning off two cab rides for a trip aboard steam locomotive No. 148. Funds raised will benefit the organization and its historic Lake Placid railroad depot. For more details, visit lakeplacidhistoricalsociety.org.

Sugar Express recently completed its first full excursion season, which began in late 2022 and concluded in May. Additional events for 2023, including Christmas trains, will be announced soon.
