Overview

Experience 2.5 million years of Lake Wales Ridge ecology from the bed of a pickup truck.

Join us for a two-hour guided tour of Archbold Biological Station in our rugged pickup trucks, exploring the rich landscapes of one of Florida’s most unique ecosystems. Along the way, we’ll make several stops to discuss the region’s fascinating geology, the endemic plants and animals of the Florida scrub, and the remnants of Ice Age fauna. You’ll also learn how plant communities have changed over time, the history of human use—including Indigenous presence, agriculture, and forestry—and the current conservation challenges facing this remarkable ecosystem.

Participants may choose to ride inside the trucks or in the truck beds. All driving is on Archbold’s sandy roads. Water and fresh fruit will be provided.
