Frequently Asked Questions
Geocaching is a real-world treasure hunt that uses GPS coordinates to guide you to hidden containers called geocaches. Using the free Geocaching® app, you’ll search for caches, sign the logbook inside, and log your find online while exploring new places.
To get started, you’ll need a GPS-enabled smartphone (or a handheld GPS device), a free account on Geocaching.com, and the free Geocaching® app. Don’t forget to download your Sebring Area Hidden Gems GeoTour Passport before you begin your adventure!
Yes! Creating a basic account on Geocaching.com and using the Geocaching® app is free. While some advanced features are available with a Premium Membership, everything you need to enjoy the Sebring Area Hidden Gems GeoTour is available with a free account.
Geocaches come in many shapes and sizes, from tiny containers smaller than 100 mL to large containers over 20 liters. They may look like plastic containers, small canisters, fake rocks, or cleverly disguised objects designed to blend into their surroundings. The cache description in the Geocaching app will tell you the container size and may provide helpful hints.
It will be a surprise! You never know what previous cache visitors have left behind in the cache. However, a cache will always contain a logsheet or logbook for you to document your find.
Adventure Labs are app-based geocaching experiences that don’t use physical containers. Instead, you’ll visit specific locations, answer questions, and collect codewords using the free Adventure Lab® app.
Once you find a geocache, sign the logbook to record your visit, then return it to the container before replacing the cache exactly as you found it. If you choose to take a trinket, leave one of equal or greater value for the next cacher. Finally, log your find in the Geocaching app.
Don’t worry—it happens to everyone! Read the cache description and hints in the Geocaching app, look carefully, and remember that geocaches are designed to be hidden. If you still can’t find it, you can log a “Did Not Find” (DNF) in the app and continue your adventure.
Absolutely! The Sebring Area Hidden Gems GeoTour is a fun outdoor activity for families, couples, friends, and solo explorers of all ages. Children should always geocache with an adult.
Complete the required number of geocaches, poster stops, and Adventure Labs listed in your GeoTour Passport, then submit your completed passport to Visit Sebring to receive your official Sebring Area Hidden Gems GeoCoin while supplies last.
