Highlands County residents are cordially invited to experience the Florida Freedom Tour at Highlands Hammock State Park on July 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Florida Freedom Tour is a mobile museum traveling through Florida’s 67 counties as part of the America 250 anniversary celebration. Visitors can walk through two 18-wheeler semi-trailers featuring exhibits and artifacts from the Museum of Florida History.
Sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Department of State, this educational initiative takes visitors on a journey through Florida’s history, from its founding as the 14th British American colony in St. Augustine to its growth and development throughout the 20th century.
The ADA-accessible tour will be stationed across from the CCC Museum in the picnic area. Admission to the tour is free and open to the public. Regular park entry fees apply: $6 per vehicle (up to eight people), $4 for single-occupant vehicles, and $2 for pedestrians and bicyclists.
